Seasonal Retrospective by Charlotte…

I am so happy to have my dear friend, Bath based photographer and dog walker, Charlotte Mcalister, share her inspirational and beautiful work with us today! This is the first of a series of posts by Charlotte, which will take you on a journey through the seasons around the city of Bath, showcasing some of her photos from 2012-2013. Today we celebrate winter in all it’s glory!

DIY Heirloom Furniture

During a recent spring clean, Jools’ Dad gave us a beautiful vintage suitcase that he’d been given as a 21st birthday present by his parents in April 1962. It accompanied him on his travels to Loughborough during his practical engineering training.

Being so stylish and with the family history behind it we knew we wanted to have it on display. Jools has recently fallen in love with Dansette legs, whilst trying to find some to fit his Wurlitzer Electric Piano, and had a spare set lying around. Over Easter, we thought we’d have a go at combining these two retro beauties to make a table that doubles up as storage.

We are so pleased with the results! Keep a look out for more Dansette inspired projects on Missalayneous in future.

Materials: vintage suitcase, Dansette legs, screws and sockets plus 4 wood blocks.

Position the leg sockets evenly apart. We used a tape measure for accuracy.

Mark the holes with pen, ready to drill.

Attaching the leg sockets to the wood blocks is the most complicated part. Be patient with it as you align the screws into the holes.

This is what the inside looks like after all sockets are attached to wood blocks. Still ample room for storage!

The best bit.... attaching the legs. We knew it had come together at this point.

Much love and thanks to Mr Jools Scott for his DIY inspiration and talents – we make a good team 🙂

We hope you like this storage idea as much as we do. It’s easily transferable to other items such as retro trays… who knows, the possibilities are endless!

What do you think? We would love to hear your ideas.

Paper Tache Fun

Paper Tache Fun

I’m so excited about Made in Paper magazine… it’s full of fun ideas for parties and inspirational home décor. There are easy-to-follow projects such as a gold leaf bowl, paper straw wreath and much, much more. Rhiannon and I are currently planning my 30th birthday party (ahhhh 30!! cue mid-life crisis) and I can’t wait to make some paper moustaches, gorgeous garlands and pretty pom poms.

Made in Paper Magazine

Made in Paper is on sale now at £7.99 and available to buy from WHSmiths and all good newsagents.

For the love of Blog!

I’ve taken some time out from blogging recently. As well as juggling the day to day stuff, I felt that I needed to get my thoughts in order. Something that has helped me greatly was having a fun girls night, with Sam and Sarah, and starting a book of inspiration. A sketchbook of collages, made from an old Klimt book (I love his work), that contains things I have found inspiring from magazines, catalogues, fashion edits and much more. Below is a selection of pages from the first chapter. Collages and snippets from The White Stuff Catalogue, Mollie Makes, ASOS Catalogue, Company Magazine, Top Shop Catalogue, Glamour Magazine, In Style, Marie Clare and Cosmo.

Hope you find it inspiring to…

Clothes Swap Bath!

Swap your way to a new wardrobe!

A couple of weeks ago I attended Clothes Swap Bath! – a social night with a real sense of community that’s also good for your carbon footprint! This months event was held at the Green Park Tavern; I got a new coat and a bag of swag! All you need to do is clear out your wardrobe (no amount of clothes too big or too small) and come along… what could be better than free clothes, great company and booze!

Thank you so much to Ruby and Squid for keeping this wonderful tradition going, without these two super organised ladies there would be no Clothes Swap Bath! as we know it! 🙂

Look at this treasure…

Thanks so much, Rosey, for sharing your home and these beautiful photos with us! You can visit Rosey and her gorgeous crochet blankets at her blog, roseylivesonaboat. xxx
